My Last Internship Day in UNESCO Jakarta

Wednesday, February 28, 2007

Today, will be my last day with UNESCO Jakarta. The very friendly and nice staffs, the unforgettable memories and the places we went together.

(unofficially and un-financially), I paid a lot for this dream. It seems that, this is the price of a dream. This is what I wanted, this is what i had been dreaming of and this is what I planned since 1,5 years ago. Eventually, I am here with UNESCO Jakarta, opening my future path, opening the door to the 44th street New York.

watching a movie last night – Peacemaker – opening my thought and giving me hope to firmly hold and nurture my great dreams.

Let’s go back to the first discussion topic. During my four-month time in UNESCO, Jakarta. I learned a lot. I experienced a lot. This is the greatest school of life I have ever joined in my life. it is highly recommended to take and apply an internship programme in UNESCO Jakarta. Or give a try to other UN entities. You will definitely learn a lot.

The office itself, is like a melting pot for the people who work there. The flow of works, the experiences, the knowledge and many more. It’s terrific.

The assignments given to me during the internship were very experience-enriching and knowledge sharpening.

Working on the Video Workshop in Aceh, Sitting on Security in the Field Test, Working on the Ci Unit Newsletter and Website, Programme Poster, Going to Aceh for a five-day ICT Training, Creating UNESCO Jakarta Communication Manual 2007, Creating the dreaft of UNESCO Jakarta Newsletter and Writing a Proposal of MDG and CI Programme.

All of those tasks I did was very impressive and challenging.

Thank you, UNESCO Jakarta. Thank you CI Unit team.

Regards,

Mohammad Reiza

New Day Has Come

It’s a new day…

One month time to finalize last two assignments in Communication and Information Unit, UNESCO Jakarta: CI Unit Newsletter #2 and CI Unit Programme Poster.

I gotta to work on my internship final report too.

Exciting.

It’s time for new spirit! Find more opportunities! Create more outputs!

Cheers,

Reiza

My Last Day and Contract Extended

Today, January 31 2007 should be my last day internship in UNESCO Jakarta, but today too, my internship contract was extended to the end of February.

I feel so blessed today to stay one month longer in UNESCO Jakarta and to get second chance to finalize two more projects: Newsletter #2 and Programme Poster, both for Communication and Information unit.

So, tomorrow will be my new day to start a new hope to create and to produce more outputs, conceptsand creativities. I like it. So, there’s no farewell party today, postponed to February 28. I’m glad also that I still have time to finalize my final report and other unfinalized assignments and proposals.

I dunno what else to say but, I’m happy and I feel glad and relaxed.

Well, let start a new day with a new hope with a new spirit to move forward.

Cheers, Reiza

Return from Aceh

Well, I am eventually back…

to the crowd of the capital city of Indonesia, Jakarta. I love the smoke of Jakarta, the bad traffic, the hectic people and the stressful schedule. I love them all, a lot.

Felt like moving from country side to uptown. Thought that works, with overloaded portion waited for me at the doorstep of UNESCO House. Felt terrible of cold and cough and so misserable, but all I need is strength and power to stay healthy and fit. With this health condition? no way I could survive. Everything was so hard to be focused on. Busy with my dripping nose, etc.

A package of mission report and financial report, programme poster, organizational communication manual and office newsletter dummy attached and unit newslleter and website update. Plus: internship final report. So hard. Unbelievably difficult.

I felt that time went so fast, time flew. I need more time right now. I did waste my three weeks time a while ago of running out of inspiration, so I did really waste my precious time to finish more jobs actually.

Well, let them remain in the past as a life lesson of my stupidity to manage my personal and professional time. Let it be a priceless experience to be remembered.

To be back in office means more stress to overcome, more people to see, more jobs to be done and more concept proposal to write. So fun, till I can barely handle them alone all by myself, I need another hand to help.

Time, will never be enough, how well you manage it, flow with it!

Introduction

The UNESCO Office, Jakarta is one arm of the global UNESCO body that is confronting the human challenges of the 2000s, an arm with reach over UNESCO’s full programme in all Sectors for the subregional cluster of Member States, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines (and from 2003, Timor Leste), as well as an arm that provides strength in science-based activities across the whole region as UNESCO’s Regional Science Bureau for Asia and the Pacific. Towards making these arms of UNESCO strong in meeting the needs of our Member States, the Director-General, Mr Koïchiro Matsuura, has embarked on a strategy of strengthening UNESCO’s decentralization of activities and relations to Member States. The idea followed of ‘Cluster Offices’ as the main platform for delivery of UNESCO programmes. These are offices that are multi-disciplinary so they can cover all aspects of UNESCO activity, and are directly responsible for (and can better serve) a small number, or sub-regional ‘cluster’, of Member States. During 2002 the UNESCO Office, Jakarta – in collaboration with the other UNESCO Field Offices through the Asia-Pacific (ASPAC) region, placed particular emphasis on drawing our respective clusters of Member States into the design of our shared medium term strategies for the region.

The first half of 2002 therefore involved proactive consultations with each of our Member States and rolling development and amendment, based on these interactions, of our Regional Medium Term Plan for ASPAC. In June, all of the UNESCO National Commissions of ASPAC Member States then met to review this Plan as well as to make inputs to the next two-year programme, the 32 C/5. The UNESCO Office, Jakarta, hosted this meeting in Jakarta at a small boutique hotel where emphasis could be placed on closer interactions and building the ASPAC UNESCO community. The meeting was successful in achieving aims of both strategic direction for the region – within the framework of UNESCO’s global objectives, and development of a greater sense of shared community.

The directions identified for UNESCO focus principally address the dynamics that have led to the legacy of intolerance and violence that has had such a poisoning effect on our world in 2002.
